Fitment Verification Checklist
Use this checklist to verify that a performance exhaust system will fit your specific motorcycle before you buy.
Step 1: Make, Model & Engine Year
Every exhaust system is designed for specific motorcycle models and years. Verify the following:
- Motorcycle make (e.g., Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, BMW)
- Model (e.g., Street Glide, R1, S1000RR)
- Model year (e.g., 2020, 2021, 2022)
- Engine platform (e.g., Milwaukee-Eight, Twin Cam, inline-four)
Step 2: Bore & Manifold Check
The exhaust header must match the motorcycle's exhaust port diameter and manifold specification:
- Exhaust port diameter (e.g., 38mm, 42mm, 45mm)
- Number of exhaust ports (e.g., 2, 4)
- Manifold configuration (e.g., 4-into-1, 2-into-1)
Step 3: Brand Fitment Cross-Reference
Each brand publishes fitment tables for their systems. Cross-reference the following:
- Brand's published fitment table for your model
- Model year range compatibility
- Engine platform compatibility
Step 4: Tuning Requirements
Performance exhausts may require fuel system adjustments:
- Fuel controller (e.g., Fuelpak, Power Commander)
- ECU remap or custom dyno tune
- Carburettor rejetting (for carburetted bikes)
Step 5: Clearance & Accessories
Check for potential clearance issues with accessories:
- Panniers and luggage racks
- Crash bars and engine guards
- Rear footpeg brackets
- Heat shields for passenger comfort
